OHSAS 18001

OHSAS 18001 sets out the minimum requirements and best practice for occupational health and safety management in any organisation.

The standard often incorrectly referred to as ISO 18001 is currently under review by project committee PC 283 and planned for replacement with ISO 45001 by October 2016.

OHSAS 18001 standard can be integrated with ISO 9001 (quality) and ISO 14001 (environmental) standards.

Providing practical guidance, OHSAS 18001 guides your organisation to an effective health and safety framework. The OHSAS 18001 standard helps your organization to identify hazards, eliminate or minimise associated operational risks, creates the best possible working conditions and provides verification checks against relevant regulatory and other requirements.

Achieving OHSAS 18001 certification will demonstrate your organisation’s commitment to an effective health and safety management system.

OHSAS 18001 the near future

Project Committee ISO PC 283 has embarked upon the creation of a new ISO standard. ISO 45001 will provide a management system standard covering occupational health and safety requirements. The project committee responsible for ISO 45001 met for the first time in London in October 2013 and produced the first working draft. The intention is for the new standard to be published by October 2016. ISO 45001 will be aligned with ISO 9001 and ISO 14001, both undergoing revision under the annex SL higher level structure.

DAT Performance, through its talented pool of chartered consultants, is positioned to prepare your organisation for the new ISO 45001 standard.
